Octavia Diaz: Founder of Diversity
Octavia is the one who started it all. As a Social Worker in Central Islip Schools, she has always been innovative with everything she does. With vast experience and focus on community based programs, Octavia originally created "Dance Diversity" via a PTA program in a local school. Diversity flourished with her hard work and dedication. Octavia has volunteered and donated to Diversity for over 19 years. Although she consistently avoids the limelight, Diversity is a success because of her :)
Joan Martinez: Support Staff Member
Joan is a great asset to Diversity. She and her daughter, Jacqueline Selesky, became a part of Diversity when the program first began in February 1999. When viewing our show, you won't hear a thing backstage or notice anything that may falter because Joan is there. She is and always has been trustworthy and reliable. Whether Joan is keeping the books, sewing costumes, dressing students during the show, running backstage to make sure nothing goes wrong, calming everyone down around showtime, or lending an ear or helping hand to those in need, "Miss Joan will do it!"
Liz Costa: Contemporary, Acro, Hip-Hop
Liz has been dancing for 18 years and her favorite dance style is Contemporary. Liz was recently a member of the Erin Pryor Dance Company in NYC, where she performed at dance festivals. In 2017, she graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. She is continuing her education at Stony Brook University as a graduate student while educating dance students.
Genevieve Goglas: Tap, Latin & Bollywood
Miss Genevieve danced with Diversity for about 10 years and has been teaching for about 3 years. She has danced in every style, although tap and Latin are her favorites. She continued dancing throughout college before she returned back to Diversity. She loves teaching the young ones and challenging them in every aspect to practice and perfect their technique. Her passion and commitment to her students is apparent and she loves every minute spent with them. She also takes classes with students who she once had in class herself. Miss Genevieve loves being a part of Diversity, and takes much pride in teaching.
Cassidy Reynolds: Tap, Jazz & Ballet
Cassidy has been a part of the Diversity family for 18 years and is so happy to have returned this year to teach again! She started as a student with us at age 6 and later became a teacher for ballet, tap & jazz. She participated in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World as an intern for 2015-2016. Miss Cassidy knows and does everything Disney which is great for our little ones! They love her class as they dance (and sing) to all their favorite Disney tunes. Miss Cassidy is excited to return to teach with us once again!
